Black Thursday?

Hi All! This is more of a rant post than anything-so feel free to ignore if you don't feel like reading my complaints!

Last year was my first time ever attending Black Friday...maybe I should rephrase that from "attending" to "working". I had never experienced Black Friday since I didn't grow up here...and to say the least-I was amazed. I mean, I understand wanting to get a good deal...but we need to draw the line somewhere. We need to draw the line so that employees are not dreading the next day all day on Thanksgiving day...

I didn't ever used to pay attention to stores or restaurants being open on Holidays. But since working at a store that is open all holidays of the year except for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day...I have gained a new perspective. Now whenever I see a sign that says "Open 365 days a year"...or "Open Thanksgiving day"...all I feel is sadness for the employees. Really? Is it really necessary?

...breathe...

A couple of weeks ago, the commercials started for Black Friday...but its now becoming "Black Thursday"...stores are opening starting at 10pm on Thanksgiving night. Come on now...let these employees stay home and be with their families for the whole day! How many of these employees are going to have to miss Turkey Dinner or what they for working and getting ready for the big sale? Not one ounce of me supports stores opening on Thanksgiving night.

So...from me to you employees that have to work on Thanksgiving night--I'm sorry. I'm sorry that the society had become so focused on the commercialism of the Christmas season that you are losing your holidays...and I'll be there with you on Friday...Sigh...
